July / August  2010

Dear Poseyville Family,

The Church schedule has been very busy this summer. So, please remember that your Church staff is working hard for you. Also, we are in need of your help. Here’s what I am thinking. In the Exodus, Moses needed help. Right, I am not Moses. However, on a smaller scale we are still on a faith journey together. Anyway, Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, told him that he couldn’t keep on doing what he was doing and remain effective. You can read this in Exodus chapter 19. Briefly Jethro says, ‘The thing that you do is not good. Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out.’ Then, it goes on with Jethro’s remarks and Moses’ remarks, too. Poseyville has reached the point where more teams or more people are needed to provide the ministries of the Church. Most of the volunteers of the Poseyville Church have been in their position, or in some position of responsibility all the 9 years I have been here. That shows a great deal of faithfulness by them. However, current needs and future needs, if taken into consideration, will require others to be willing to volunteer in significant roles. This is also a huge thank you to everyone who is in a position of responsibility, too; because we all take these opportunities seriously, and enjoy the fellowship involved in the commitment. As chair of the Lay Leadership committee, I have a resource that describes task force leader’s responsibilities and the tasks of a typical local Church. Please, please look me up at your convenience and discuss this concern with me. We can also meet with the whole committee and discuss the various staff/volunteer needs of Poseyville. In closing, don’t you just love it! Moses’ father-in-law’s name, Jethro; that’s just great. See ya’ soon. Oh, by the way, I have been appointed for another year, yes sirree, a 10th year, thanks for your faithfulness over the first 9.

This summer, Call to the Creek2, will co-sponsor a Workcamp in our community. Local residents will benefit from the work of the projected 450 adult & teenage volunteers at the Call to the Creek2 Workcamp.

The week of July 18-24, 2010, the Workcamp will provide free home repairs through the Group Workcamps Foundation. In order for the Workcamp to be successful, participants need to be able to reach the areas they will be working on. This is where we could use your help!

This summer’s Workcamp requires about 137 ladders, from 6’ to 24’. Would you be able to loan us a ladder (or several) for that week? All ladders will be tracked carefully, treated respectfully, and returned immediately after the Workcamp. The drop site for the ladders will be the metal shop building at the Northwest of Bullock Creek High School. (Follow the signs at Gordonville Rd & the Bus Garage entrance.)

You can drop ladders off Sat., July 10th, from 8am-3pm, or make arrangements to have us pick up your ladder by calling Carol at 832-3493 (leave a message). All ladders will be returned or can be picked up on Sat., July 24th, from 8am until all ladders have been returned. We appreciate your support!

The Rummage and Bake Sale from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. will be held on August 21.  There will be coffee and donuts to purchase. The proceeds will go to apportionments.  We will start collecting the rummage anytime now; it can be left in the first south classroom.  The office is open from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Monday through Thursday.  We also will need baked goods for the sale.

UMW is sponsoring a church picnic, watch the bulletin for more news. This will be on Sunday July 11 after church, bring a dish to pass, UMW will supply the meat.
Please start collecting items for our August project. Backpacks for the local school kids. If you would like to donate we are collecting supplies, Pencils, erasers, crayons, glue sticks. We will have a list towards the end of July in the bulletin.

Also we are helping with Church rummage sale on August 21 from 9-2 so keep collecting your wonderful gems and bring them to share.  We are more than happy to store them for you.

Children’s Ministry

There will be children’s activities/crafts each Sunday for the kids to do for the summer. Sunday school will start back up in September. Volunteers are needed each week to rotate through the summer for these activities. Patti and AnnMarie have come up with some great ideas for the kids to do this summer and will need help with supplies and volunteer each week to rotate. Thank you for your support and help with the children. Have a Great Summer!!!

Prayers, Caring & Sharing:

Nestled snugly among the branches of a gnarled blackjack oak, a bright red cardinal and its mate carefully guard a nest full of eggs. Ever watchfully, the adult birds vigorously defend the nest against all sorts of predators. Until the eggs are hatched and the baby cardinals are mature enough to survive on their own, the adults are fully committed to their care.

God is even more committed to you than those amazing cardinals are to their little brood.  When you are heart broken and vulnerable, God is there to defend, sustain, and heal you in preparation for the day when you can fly high and strong on the currents of life. When you place your hope and trust in his faithfulness. You will not be disappointed. He is committed to your care.

God when I feel weak and helpless, I will put my hope and trust in your commitment to guard my life and nurse me back to health and wholeness. Amen.
